Bangkok, Thailand – 5 February 2026
On 5 February 2026, SRP participated in the Inclusive Sustainable Rice Landscapes (ISRL) coordination meeting, jointly convened with Thailand’s Rice Department. The meeting formed part of the ISRL initiative, supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which aims to transform rice production systems in Thailand toward sustainability through an integrated landscape management approach.
SRP was represented by Ms. Tarida Dalai, ISRL Committee Member, who joined the meeting online. In addition, Mr. Tun Boonyakongrat and Miss Avitra Chomthong from SRP Communications and Membership Unit participated on-site at the Rice Department headquarters in Bangkok, engaging directly with partners and stakeholders. SRP’s participation reaffirmed its openness to collaboration and alignment with national efforts to advance sustainable rice production systems.
The ISRL initiative brings together key stakeholders across the rice sector, including government agencies, research institutions, development partners, and the private sector. It addresses critical challenges such as biodiversity loss, land degradation, climate change mitigation, and food systems transformation, with implementation areas in Chiang Rai and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.
During the meeting, participants exchanged updates on implementation progress and discussed opportunities to strengthen coordination and scale up sustainable rice production practices. The discussions highlighted farmers’ strong familiarity with SRP standards and reinforced SRP’s role as a key partner in supporting Thailand’s transition toward more resilient and sustainable rice-based food systems.
As of early 2026, SRP-supported rice cultivation under the SRP Standard reached 32,822 hectares, reflecting steady progress toward the project’s target of 90,000 hectares by the end of 2027. Beyond expanding sustainable production areas, the ISRL project also seeks to generate wider economic and market impacts by encouraging increased domestic consumption of sustainably produced rice in Thailand, enhancing the value of sustainable rice exports, and strengthening Thailand’s position and market share in the global sustainable rice market.
Looking ahead, SRP remains committed to working closely with the Rice Department and ISRL partners to expand inclusive sustainable rice landscapes and deliver long-term benefits for farmers, ecosystems, and food systems in Thailand.
