Why does traceability matter?

Traceability refers to the ability to track and verify the history and location of a material’s movement throughout all defined stages of production, processing and distribution, until it reaches the retail shelf.

SRP’s approach extends beyond environmentally responsible cultivation to cover crucial social responsibilities. These include elimination of child labor, promotion of fair labor practices as well as health and safety standards.

The RiceTrace digital portal enables secure tracking of a consignment of rice from farm or producer group as it passes through each step in the supply chain, using an audited Chain of Custody process to record and validate all transactions among supply chain actors. This provides transparency and enables volumetric reconciliation along the supply chain.

To safeguard the integrity and credibility of SRP’s sustainability label, RiceTrace ensures that sensitive data is secure and protected, adhering to SRP Data Privacy Policy. By verifying that rice is sourced from producers meeting SRP’s criteria, traceability fosters trust among consumers and other stakeholders, in keeping with our focus on ethical sourcing, transparency and accountability.

RiceTrace Access

Verified Units of SRP are entitled to free access SRP RiceTrace, ensuring seamless traceability and transparency in their supply chains. Whether or not you are a member of SRP, you can take full advantage of the platform’s features and benefits.

Retailers play a crucial role as the final link in the SRP supply chain. Since retailers receive the final product with packaging that includes the SRP label and/or claim, they are not required to conduct a Chain of Custody (CoC) verification audit or receive a transaction certificate. However, it is essential to record their involvement to maintain transparency and traceability.

Retailers do not need to perform any actions within RiceTrace. If a retailer is an SRP member, they will receive an account to check the inventory record transfer of SRP rice from their supplier. Non-member retailers can still access RiceTrace on payment of the applicable fee. Retailers can also rapidly process assessment and approval of SRP labels and claims via RiceTrace. If they do not have access to RiceTrace, they can alternatively ask their supplier to submit the SRP label and claim assessment request on their behalf.

To support continuous development, maintenance and enhancement of the SRP RiceTrace platform, we have established a fee structure that ensures secure access for participants on a need-to-know basis in compliance with applicable data privacy and data protection regulations including GDPR:

  • SRP Members:
    • Each SRP member can register up to two Manager-level accounts with access to SRP RiceTrace Key Features.
    • Members can register a marketing email address with SRP RiceTrace to receive buyer inquiries, though this email does not provide access to the platform itself.
    • Additional user accounts: EUR 50 p.a.
  • For Non-Members:
    • EUR 250 p.a. for two Manager accounts.
    • Additional user accounts: EUR 50 p.a. per account
