SRP MEMBER SUCCESS STORY: AGRICAPTURE
From Practice to Proof: SRP Standards Driving Real-World Impact
In the heart of America’s rice belt, something remarkable is taking root—not just in the soil, but in the way farmers are redefining what sustainable agriculture looks like.
This season, 33,996 carbon credits—the first of their kind from the 2024 growing season—have officially entered the U.S. market. Behind each credit lies a powerful story: one of transformation, resilience, and climate action. These are not just numbers. They are proof of what’s possible when farmers are equipped with the right tools, the right incentives—and the right standards.
And at the heart of it all stands the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP).
From Practice to Proof: SRP Standards Driving Real-World Impact
Through AgriCapture’s innovative carbon project—the largest rice methane reduction initiative in U.S. history—farmers across 926 rice fields in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas are adopting climate-smart irrigation practices like Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) and furrow irrigation. These methods, aligned with SRP’s Standard for Sustainable Rice Cultivation, enable them to:
- Reduce methane emissions by up to 70%
- Save over 300,000 gallons of water per carbon credit issued
- Achieve 70,000 metric tons of verified GHG reductions
- Conserve 21 billion gallons of water to date
These figures speak volumes, but the real story lies in how farmers are embracing change.

“Farmers are willing to adopt better practices that save water and reduce methane when the economics work, and the incentives are real,” said Tyler Hull, CEO of AgriCapture. “SRP provides the foundational framework, and AgriCapture builds the engine for change.”
Fast Rewards for Smart Choices
What sets this initiative apart is its efficiency and integrity. AgriCapture’s ability to issue verified carbon credits within six months of harvest offers farmers a reliable and timely return for choosing sustainability—even as they navigate rising costs and volatile markets.
Every credit is independently verified by the Climate Action Reserve and backed by field-level data—reinforcing the credibility that global stakeholders demand. For rice buyers, traders, and climate financiers, this is the transparency that turns sustainability into scalable action.
Scaling Solutions, Global Relevance
With momentum building in the U.S., the model is now being replicated in Brazil and poised for expansion to other countries—creating a blueprint for how sustainable rice cultivation can unlock environmental markets worldwide.
The SRP Standard has been central to this transformation. By providing clear, measurable, and credible guidance for sustainable practices, SRP empowers farmers to not only reduce emissions and preserve water, but also improve market access and long-term resilience.

A Call to Action for the Rice Sector
For policymakers, food companies, and sustainability champions, this story is more than a case study—it’s a proof point that sustainable rice is not only viable, but valuable. It shows that with the right enabling systems—standards, incentives, verification, and investment—rice farmers anywhere in the world can become climate heroes.
As the SRP community, we invite stakeholders across the rice value chain to join this transformation. Whether you’re a producer, buyer, government agency, or funder—the tools are here, the impact is real, and the moment is now.
Because sustainable rice isn’t just about reducing emissions. It’s about growing hope—field by field, farmer by farmer.
