Sustainable Rice Platform Highlights Inclusive Pathways for High-Value Rice Development at National Multi-Stakeholder Workshop Bangkok, Thailand
Bangkok, Thailand — On 8 January 2026, the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) participated in a national consultative workshop organized under the project “Enhancing Farmers’ Income through High-Value Rice Products,” commissioned by the Trade Policy and Strategy Office (TPSO), Ministry of Commerce, and implemented by Bolliger & Company (Thailand) Ltd. as the project consultant.
The workshop convened a diverse group of stakeholders across the rice value chain, including government agencies, financial institutions, exporters, rice producers, processors, and civil society organizations. The objective was to exchange perspectives and jointly explore strategic directions for expanding market opportunities for high-value rice products in Thailand.
During the discussions, SRP emphasized that the development of high-value rice should not focus solely on sustainability standards in isolation. Instead, it requires a holistic approach that integrates environmental sustainability with improved quality of life for farmers and fair, inclusive outcomes for all actors across the value chain. This includes considerations of income stability, access to finance, market linkages, labor conditions, and long-term resilience of farming communities.
SRP shared insights on how sustainable rice practices can serve as a foundation for value creation, while also underscoring the need for cross-sector collaboration to ensure that sustainability translates into tangible social and economic benefits. The exchange of views with banks, government agencies, exporters, and rice industry actors highlighted the importance of aligning policies, market incentives, and financing mechanisms to support inclusive growth within the rice sector.

The workshop also provided an important platform for multi-stakeholder engagement, allowing SRP to connect with a broader network of organizations involved in rice production, trade, and policy development. These interactions strengthened mutual understanding and opened opportunities for future collaboration aimed at advancing sustainable and high-value rice systems in Thailand.
Participation in this workshop further clarified SRP’s strategic positioning as a platform that bridges sustainability, livelihoods, and market development. The engagement helped reinforce existing partnerships, build new connections, and expand awareness of SRP’s role among a wider group of stakeholders across the rice value chain.
Sustainable Rice Platform remains committed to fostering inclusive, sustainable, and market-oriented rice production, working closely with partners from the public and private sectors to enhance farmer livelihoods and strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness in the global rice market.
