Join us at the SRP Symposium at IRC 2023!

The Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) will convene a 1-day Symposium on 17 October 2023 as part of the 6th International Rice Congress (IRC 2023) organized by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and the Republic of the Philippines Department of Agriculture. The IRC 2023 event will take place in Manila 16-19 October 2023 under the topic ‘Accelerating Transformation of Rice-Based Food Systems: From Gene to Globe’.

The SRP Symposium will offer rice stakeholders insights into SRP’s collaborative efforts with with its members and partners, to address critical sustainability challenges facing the rice sector through market-led value-chain and development-driven approaches.

Event Objectives: The SRP Symposium will broaden awareness of the linkages between rice and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, provide a forum for face-to-face exchange among both SRP members and IRC participants on scaling pathways, and to unite a broader circle of stakeholders with a shared mission to transform the global rice sector.

Organized under three thematic sessions including presentations and panel discussions, the symposium will take stock of the SRP experience and present innovative approaches to scaling impact. High-level speakers will discuss how rice sector interventions can contribute to sustainable food systems, climate action and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sessions will feature lessons learned from SRP member initiatives from around the world, the market prospects for sustainable rice, the future of assurance, as well as large-scale rice-based GEF-funded projects in South and Southeast Asia, to be implemented under the Sustainable Rice Landscapes Initiative Consortium and other development partners. The event will be attended by rice value chain actors, service and input providers, researchers, civil society and financial actors and high-level representatives of the international development community.

With important new developments in digitization, carbon markets and innovative approaches to financing sustainable rice, this symposium is a must for rice stakeholders interested or engaged at a strategic level and working towards systemic transformation.
