Announcing SRP’s New Gender and Inclusion Policy

SRP is excited to announce the launch of the Sustainable Rice Platform Gender and Social Inclusion Policy, endorsed by the SRP Board on 20 March 2024. This is an important step in our journey towards commitment to equality and inclusivity.

The policy incorporates gender equality, social and institutional inclusion, and women’s empowerment into SRP’s strategy, governance, operations, and partnerships. It establishes a framework of commitments to advance gender mainstreaming in SRP and the global rice sector.

SRP commits to becoming a gender-transformative organization, recognizing the complexities of gender and intersectional discrimination. We encourage our members to embrace a similar ethos, addressing women’s issues both internally and externally. The policy serves as a framework for integrating transformative gender perspectives into our activities, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal of achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls.

In implementing this Policy, SRP adheres to the following key principles:

  • Accountability: The whole organization is accountable for achieving gender commitments.
  • Representation: We prioritize creating opportunities for women in governance roles to advance gender equality and social inclusion, aiming for gender balance to enhance institutional credibility and performance.
  • Inclusion: SRP fosters a culture where women, non-binary individuals, and other underrepresented groups feel recognized and valued.
  • Transparency: We believe openness and communication are essential for advancing gender mainstreaming in the global rice sector, committing to share progress, setbacks, and lessons learned openly with stakeholders openly.

We are dedicated to diversity and inclusion, recognizing their crucial role for strengthening our organization and improving our relationships with members, partners, and communities. We welcome all SRP members to stand with us in supporting diversity, confronting biases, and fostering a welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.
